A WikiWiki is a word containing a capital letter followed by any combination of lower and capital case letters. WikiWiki words must contain at least one capital case letter (other than the first), and may not start with two capital case letters.
For example:
- This is a WikiWiki word.
- This is not a notWikiWiki word.
- This is not a WIKIWIKI word.
- This is not a WIkiWiki word either. (notice the capital "I" after the "W")
- MinGW is not a WikiWiki word, but MinGw is.
WikiWiki words always create a hyperlink to another web page, if the web page doesn't yet exist, then you will see the word with ? icon idicating that you need to create a page for this WikiWiki.
Wiki Tips
- To create a hyperlink to a page for a word or a phrase that isn't a WikiWiki surrond the word or phrase with a pair of brackets [ ]. For example, recent edits is not a WikiWiki word, but is a hyperlink. If you need to specify to which page the link should point to, use a pipeline | to separate the word from the hyperlink. (look at the source code of this page to understand (you must be logged in).
- To avoid creating a hyperlink, use a tilde ~ as a prefix. This HyperLink doesn't create a link.
What does Wiki mean ?
Wiki in Hawai'ian means "fast" or "quick". In Hawai'ian repeated words provide emphasis, so WikiWiki means "very quick".
In other words a WikiWiki (or also a WikiWikiWeb, or just plain Wiki) is a community developed documentation project whose goal is quick editing and creation of pages.
